Holiday and Severe Weather Schedules

Please note that certain trains will make additional station stops when the S (Special Service) schedule is in effect. These stops are listed in the footnotes for each MARC line. Schedules may also be adjusted during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Please consult the MARC timetables.

During periods of severe weather, MARC may also operate these same schedules in order to maintain a more reliable service.

Ticket Purchase Options

MARC has installed Amtrak Quik-Trak self-serve ticketing kiosks at a number of MARC stations, in addition to those that are also served by Amtrak trains.  These kiosks sell one-way, weekly, and monthly MARC tickets at both regular and senior/disabled fares.  You may pay with an American Express, Discover, MasterCard or Visa card, or with a debit card.  You may also use the kiosk to obtain tickets for a previously-booked Amtrak reservation, even at locations where no Amtrak trains stop.

Most MARC stations are unstaffed and feature Amtrak Quik Trak machines.  These machines accept all major debit and credit cards.  One-way tickets may be purchased on the train when no ticket agent is available, with cash only.  tickets purchased on trains are subject to a $3.00 surcharge if the ticket office was open at train departure time.  The onboard surcharge of $3.00 is also accessed at locations with a Quik-Trak machine only.  Conductors cannot accept any bill denominations above $20.00 for cash fare sales on trains.  Passengers presenting bills larger than $20 will be asked to leave the train at the next station that has a ticket vending machine or ticket agent and purchase their ticket.

Tickets can be purchased with cash, major credit cards, SmartBenefits Vouchers or Commuter Choice Maryland vouchers, at any Amtrak ticket office, Odenton MARC Station, and the four Commuter Stores in Virginia. Passengers are required to show photo ID when buying MARC tickets at the ticket windows at Amtrak ticket offices .

SmartBenefits Vouchers and Commuter Choice Maryland vouchers cannot be accepted in excess of the price of a ticket.  SmartBenefits Vouchers  are accepted only with redeemable values of $1, $10, and $30. MARC tickets may also be purchased online at www.CommuterDirect.com . If you use a WMATA Smart Card and get transit Benefits electronically loaded to the card, you can apply some or all of those benefits toward the purchase of MARC tickets. Contact CommuterDirect.com for details.

Fares and on-train penalties paid in the absence of weekly or monthly tickets will not be credited or refunded. Children under the age of six may ride free with any passenger paying the full fare (limit of two children per full fare passenger). Additional children will be charged the appropriate full fare.

Senior citizens (age 65 and over), persons with disabilities, Medicare card holders and students with Student
Advantage Cards are eligible for reduced fares and may be asked for proof of eligibility at time of purchase or aboard the train. X

Ticket Cross-Honoring on Amtrak Trains

MARC weekly and monthly ticket holders (one-way tickets are NOT valid on Amtrak) may ride Amtrak trains that are listed in the MARC timetable at no additional cost. Travel must be in accordance with the zone/city pairs on the ticket, and only on days when MARC service operates. For example, a Washington, DC/Perryville ticket may be used to ride to Aberdeen, but a Washington, DC/Edgewood ticket could not be used to Aberdeen. Passengers may only ride Amtrak trains between the points indicated in the MARC timetable.

MARC weekly and monthly tickets may also be used to ride selected Amtrak “regional” trains on weekends and before and after MARC service hours on weekdays. For details go to mta.maryland.gov and click on “MARC Train,” then “Amtrak Cross Honoring Policies.” Some trains not available at peak hours.
