MTA to Make Core Transit Free on Election Day
BALTIMORE, MD (November 1, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration will offer free transit on core service (Bus, Metro Subway, Light Rail, and Mobility) Election Day, Tuesday November 5. This effort aims to eliminate transportation barriers that may prevent voters from getting to the polls. Polls in Maryland will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
“Every citizen who wants to exercise their fundamental right to vote should have easy access to the polls,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “This Election Day, for the first time, the Maryland Transit Administration is proud to offer free rides to help make the voting process more accessible for everyone.”
Free transit rides will be available on Maryland Transit Administration core service including Local Bus (CityLink, LocalLink and Express BusLink), Metro Subway, Light Rail and the Mobility paratransit system.
To plan a trip using bus or rail, customers can use the free Transit app or visit the website at mta.maryland.gov. Transit App provides real-time schedules, predicted arrival times, service alerts and detailed step-by-step navigation. Customers also can contact the Transit Information Contact Center at 410-539-5000. Certified mobility riders can contact the Mobility Call Center reservation line at 410-764-8181 or online mta.maryland.gov/mobility.
