For IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
BALTIMORE, MD (November 27, 2020) – Continuing a 42-year tradition, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) will celebrate the holidays by offering free rides on its Holiday Bus. The Holiday Bus will operate weekdays on various CityLink and LocalLink bus routes beginning Monday, November 30, through Christmas Day, Friday, December 25. Although Santa will not be on board this year due to COVID-19 considerations, passengers will still be able to enjoy festive holiday music during their ride.
“In a year of unparalleled challenges, it is our honor to offer our riders some holiday cheer through the Holiday Bus,” said MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn. “This free trip is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our dedicated customers.”
MDOT MTA customers can track the Holiday Bus by using the Transit App, which provides real-time information for Local Bus, MARC Train and Commuter Bus. The Holiday Bus will be depicted by a special sleigh icon. For information on the Transit App and details for free downloading, go to mta.maryland.gov/transit. The schedule and location of the Holiday Bus will change daily. Customers can follow MDOT MTA on Facebook at facebook.com/mtamaryland and on Twitter @mtamaryland for clues on where the Holiday Bus will be located.
To help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect our passengers and our team members, MDOT MTA reminds all riders that face coverings are required when riding transit. MDOT MTA also will continue enhanced disinfecting procedures of all vehicles and stations including high-passenger touchpoint areas. To optimize the effectiveness of our efforts, we ask riders to do their part by continuing to follow common-sense recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including minimizing unnecessary travel, staying home if sick, limiting touching surfaces, and practicing good hand hygiene.
MDOT MTA is one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States. MDOT MTA operates LocalLink and commuter buses, Light RailLink, Metro SubwayLink, MARC Train service and a comprehensive Mobility paratransit system. MDOT MTA’s goal is to provide safe, efficient and reliable transit across Maryland with world-class customer service. To learn more, visit mdot.maryland.gov or mta.maryland.gov.
