IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Free Bus Bridge Will Transport Riders Between Four Affected Stops
BALTIMORE, MD (February 23, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is beginning a project to install a new concrete grade crossing on Business Park Drive at the Timonium Business Park Light Rail stop. Construction will begin at 5 a.m. Sunday, March 5 and continue through Sunday, March 26, with service resuming Monday, March 27.
During the work, Light Rail stops from Timonium Fairgrounds to Falls Road will be closed, and a free bus bridge will transport passengers between the four affected stops: Timonium Fairgrounds, Timonium Business Park, Lutherville and Falls Road. Light Rail service at all stops south of Falls Road and north of Timonium Fairgrounds will not be affected.
“Installation of a new grade crossing at the Timonium Business Park Light Rail stop will enhance the safety and reliability of our light rail service,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “We encourage riders to allow for additional travel time during construction.”
The Maryland Transit Administration will continue to keep riders informed through signage at each stop, platform announcements, updates via social media and e-alert notifications. Motorists who travel on Business Park Drive will need to use alternate routes as road access will be limited during the three-week construction period.
This planned grade crossing replacement work is part of the Maryland Transit Administration’s investment to keep the Light Rail system in a state of good repair. In addition to replacing the Business Park Drive rail crossing, crews will also upgrade nearby pedestrian ramps to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
