It’s the Winning Ticket: Take MDOT MTA Transit to the Preakness

 

Horse Racing and Festival Fans Can Enjoy Fast, Convenient Transit to Old Hilltop for all the Preakness Excitement on May 20

 

BALTIMORE, MD (May 17, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is encouraging horse racing fans attending the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 20, to leave their vehicles at home and take fast, affordable public transportation to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Taking Local Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway or MARC Train to this year’s festivities is one sure way to be a winner at the second jewel of racing’s Triple Crown.                       

 

“The Preakness represents one of Maryland’s greatest sports traditions, and the Maryland Transit Administration can get attendees to all the excitement at Pimlico without the worry of traffic jams and expensive parking,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “Transit is a safe, reliable and affordable way to start the day in the winner’s circle.”
 

The fare for all local MTA services is $2 one-way, $4 round-trip and $4.60 for a day pass, which includes unlimited travel on Local Bus, Light Rail and Metro Subway trains for the day and evening. Shuttle buses will run from the Reisterstown Plaza Metro Subway Station, the Cold Spring Lane Light Rail Stop and Poly-Western High School to take people to and from Pimlico Race Course. 
 

Riders can use the CharmPass mobile ticketing app for fast and easy access to fares. The Transit app provides transit riders the ability to track their bus, light rail train or metro subway train in real time. Both the CharmPass and Transit apps are free to download onto smartphones.
 

Below is a list of transit options available to bring fans to Pimlico. For details, visit mta.maryland.gov.

 

LOCAL BUS- Local buses 30, 31, 34, 85, 91 and 94 all stop near the track.

LIGHT RAIL -Take Light Rail service to the Cold Spring Lane stop. Then, take the connecting shuttle bus to Pimlico. Shuttle bus service begins at 8 a.m. and return service ends two hours after the Preakness race. A $4.60 day pass is required.

 

METRO SUBWAY – Take Metro Subway to the Reisterstown Plaza station. Then, take the connecting shuttle bus to the track. Shuttle bus service begins at 8 a.m. and return service ends two hours after the Preakness race. A $4.60 day pass is required

 

MARC TRAIN – Take MARC Penn Line service to Baltimore Penn Station. Take the Penn/Camden shuttle bus or walk to the Mt. Royal/Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) Light Rail stop and take a northbound train to the Cold Spring Lane stop. Transfer to the connecting shuttle bus service to the track. Shuttle bus service to Pimlico begins at 8 a.m. and return shuttle service ends two hours after the Preakness race. A MARC Train ticket and a $4.60 day pass are required.
