BALTIMORE, MD (August 2, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration Police will host events at two community centers in Baltimore in support of National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6. National Night Out is a national community-building event that promotes partnership between law enforcement and the local community. These events foster public safety by encouraging more positive relationships between residents and the police.
“The Maryland Transit Administration Police recognize the importance of National Night Out as a hands-on way to demonstrate the agency’s commitment to safety on public transit,” said Maryland Transit Chief of Police Col. Jerome E. Howard Jr. “National Night Out gives our officers the opportunity to directly engage with the communities we serve and increase safety awareness.”
Maryland Transit Police representatives will discuss transit safety, offer tips on staying safe and collect community feedback at the Halethorpe Community Center, 1900 Northeast Avenue, Halethorpe Maryland 21227, from 6-8:30 p.m. MTA Police will also be at the Franklintown Community Association, 5214 Windsor Mill Road, Gwynn Oak Maryland 21207, from 6-8 p.m.
The agency’s police look forward to meeting with community members during National Night Out and encourage all residents interested in promoting a safer community to join them for this free event. National Night Out is one of several events Maryland Transit Police participate in throughout the year to support the local community. Others include the Polar Bear Plunge and Torch Run to support Special Olympics, the Back to School Supply Drive, and the Adopt-A-Family program at holiday time.
