Metro Subway Service to End One Hour Earlier for Six Months
BALTIMORE (March 6, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration will temporarily adjust Metro Subway service hours allow additional testing of new railcars and the signal system. This testing is necessary to prepare the railcars for passenger service later this year. The new hours will begin on Monday, March 24, following a weekend closure that starts at 8pm on Friday, March 21.
“We appreciate our Metro Subway riders’ patience as we complete critical testing to ensure the new railcars are ready for service,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “We understand the inconvenience and are working to minimize disruptions.”
Currently, Metro Subway operates from 5 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and from 6 a.m. to midnight on weekends. Under the temporary schedule, service will end approximately one hour earlier. Normal service hours are expected to resume on or around October 1.
The last trains will depart:
Weekdays
- Eastbound: Departs Owings Mills at 10:57 p.m., arriving at Johns Hopkins Hospital at 11:26 p.m.
- Westbound: Departs Johns Hopkins Hospital at 11:18 p.m., arriving at Owings Mills at 11:47 p.m.
Weekends and Holidays
- Eastbound: Departs Owings Mills at 11:05 p.m., arriving at Johns Hopkins Hospital at 11:34 p.m.
- Westbound: Departs Johns Hopkins Hospital at 11:15 p.m., arriving at Owings Mills at 11:44 p.m.
The Maryland Transit Administration will notify riders through station signage, platform announcements, social media updates, the agency’s website, and it’s e-alert system. Transit Ambassadors will be available at Metro Subway stations to assist passengers. For additional information, riders can call the Transit Information Contact Center at 410-539-5000.
Service adjustments will be made for special events, such as Orioles night games and Preakness, to accommodate ridership demand.
