BALANCE BMORE

Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) will implement Balance BMORE, a bus stop optimization initiative aimed at improving transit efficiency by adjusting bus stop locations. This involves discontinuing, adding, or relocating stops to achieve consistent spacing that will help reduce travel delays for faster, more reliable trips. MTA used a data-driven approach to identify optimization opportunities, considering stop spacing, ridership, safety, accessibility, and other factors to provide a better rider experience.

What could balancing bus stops look like?

Adjusting stops to ensure that the distance between bus stops are not too long or too short to maintain bus speed

Adding stops to improve access to key points of interest to better serve riders

Relocating bus stops to the far side of intersections to minimize delays

Consolidating stops to offer amenities for some riders compared to their previously used stop

Discontinuing stops with low ridership or operational challenges

Keeping stops to continue to provide access for seniors or people with disabilities

Balance BMORE Proposed Bus Stop Modifications

MTA proposes implementing bus stop modifications on CityLink Silver, LocalLink 22, LocalLink 29 and LocalLink 67 during the Summer 2025 Service Change.

Check out the route sheets below to see how each route will be modified (click to enlarge):

For riders whose stops are being modified during Phase 1 of Balance BMORE, the added distance to the nearest bus stop is on average, no more than 490 feet – or about a 2 ½ minute walk.

Don't see your route listed above? The Project Team will use bus operations data, feedback received, & additional post-implementation data to guide future optimization phases.

Purpose and Anticipated Benefits

  • Increased transit efficiency and reduction in passenger travel time
  • Increased ADA accessibility
  • Repurposing of underutilized stops for other uses (i.e., parking, loading zones, etc.)
  • Understanding of rider feedback and priorities
