Germantown: Parking limited and staircase closed due to emergency repairs
February 9 Update:
Construction continues to progress on permanent repairs to the westbound platform at Germantown. Starting with afternoon service on Friday, February 9, the eastern most staircase and ADA ramp will reopen. The western most staircase will close again for the final stages of this project.
Our contractors are estimating that this work will take approximately two more weeks. Parking will continue to be limited. We understand that parking is already limited at Germantown and recognize that this will cause further inconvenience. All legal parking will likely be taken after the departure of Train 876 at 7:11am, if not sooner. MARC Train customers should plan their commute accordingly.
Cars parked illegally will be ticketed and are subject to being towed! Passengers are not permitted to move any construction barriers or enter the construction zone. The areas that are cordoned off are blocked for your safety and to ensure that your vehicles are not damaged.
Illegally parked cars pose a serious life and fire safety hazard because they impede emergency vehicle's access to the station. Passengers were observed this week directly blocking in their fellow passengers by double parking and parking in clearly-marked No Parking zones that prevent other cars from leaving their legal parking spaces. Illegally parked cars also hamper the ongoing construction effort, prolonging the project and increasing the inconvenience for everyone. Illegal parking will not be tolerated and, again, vehicles are subject to ticketing and towing.
Passengers should consider the following alternatives to parking at Germantown:
- Drive to Metropolitan Grove station (address: 3 Metropolitan Court, Gaithersburg, MD). All Brunswick Line trains stop at Metropolitan Grove and there is ample available parking. Tickets to/from Germantown are always honored at Metropolitan Grove.
- Consider carpooling or have someone drop you off at the station.
- RideOn Route 83 operates from Holy Cross Germantown Hospital to various points around Germantown, including the Germantown Bus Transit Center, on to the MARC station. Rides are free for MARC weekly and monthy passholders. The bus boarding location has been temporarily relocated adjacent to the pedestrian overpass in the western parking lot on the westbound platform side.
We regret any inconvenience this project is causing and appreciate your patience as we work as quickly and safely as possible to complete these emergency repairs -- and do enough comprehensive work to ensure that the pipe and drainage problems under the westbound platform are permanently corrected.
