There will be a significant Penn Line schedule change on Saturday, January 4, 2025 (Monday, January 6 for weekday service). There are many adjustments, particularly to northbound trains, due to an Amtrak trackwork project that will take place in early 2025 between Halethorpe and West Baltimore. Please carefully review this schedule, as several trains have new departure times and different stopping patterns. Here is a summary of the most significant changes (a full list of changes is further down on this page) --
Morning service to Washington Union Station
- Train 401 (4:15am departure from Penn Station) continues to remain suspended due to Amtrak's overnight infrastructure improvement projects.
- Trains 403 and 407 (currently the 5:00 and 5:45am departures from Penn Station) will both operate 5 minutes earlier.
Afternoon/evening service to Baltimore and Perryville
- Train 426 (currently the 3:10pm departure from Union Station) will depart 10 minutes earlier.
- Train 428 (currently the 4:30pm departure from Union Station) will depart 45 minutes earlier at 3:45pm
- Train 430 (currently the 4:20pm departure from Union Station) will depart 10 minutes later and will add a stop at Seabrook
- Train 634 (currently the 4:50pm departure from Union Station) will depart 5 minutes earlier
- Why are trains 428 and 430 changing? Due to the necessary earlier departure of Train 426, there is a large gap in service between Trains 426 and 532. Moving Train 428 from a 4:30pm departure to 3:45pm not only fills this gap, but allows us to better space out the 3:00 and 4:00 hour departures. It also fulfils a long-standing request from customers to have a late 3:00pm hour departure from Union Station and will relieve crowding on Train 532. Trains will now depart Union Station at 3:00pm, 3:45pm, 4:10pm, 4:30pm, and 4:45pm.
- Train 438 (currently the 5:20pm departure from Union Station) will depart 7 minutes later and will no longer stop at New Carrollton
Late evening service, Monday-Thursday
- Train 455 (8:45pm departure from Penn Station) will continue to operate Monday - Thursday as the last southbound train.
- Train 454 (10:05pm departure from Union Station) will continue to operate Monday - Thursday as the last northbound train.
Late evening service, Fridays
- Trains 453 (9:35pm departure from Penn Station) and 452 (10:55pm departure from Union Station) will continue to operate on Fridays only.
There are additional schedule changes to other trains, which are listed below. Printed copies of the new timetable being distributed, but quantities are limtied. We ask that passengers take only one copy of the new timetable.
