MARC Train is pleased to announce that Penn Line Train 401 will return to service on Tuesday, October 14.  Train 401 was suspended in April 2024 to support Amtrak's state of good repair and ADA accessibility construction work at stations between Baltimore and Washington.

Train 401 schedule

Amtrak's work is still underway and requires the maximum amount of time overnight with no trains operating to ensure that projects are finished on time and on budget.  At the present time, Train 401 cannot depart Penn Station before 4:30am to avoid impacting this ongoing work.  The schedule of Train 401 has been designed to meet this 4:30am departure requirement and also arrive at New Carrollton for the second Washington Metrorail departure of the morning.  With the restoration of Train 401, Train 403 will return to a 4:50am departure from Penn Station, five minutes later than its current departure time.

MARC Train appreciates the collaborative efforts with Amtrak to restore this service.

A new Penn Line timetable will not be produced at this time.  A special supplemental schedule insert has been created that customers can print, cut, and place inside the current Penn Line timetable.  You can also download a copy to keep on your mobile device.  Click the following links to download:

We appreciate our passenger's patience over the last year and a half and look forward to welcoming you back to Train 401.  Thank you for riding MARC Train.
